Angry yuppie redux

One of the things that I have learned in my travels in the past few years is that the parking industry is rife with thievery and corruption. Parking attendants routinely skim money off the daily take. If you park in a garage for one hour and thirty-five minutes, you will almost surely be charged for two hours.

Just today, I parked at a garage, and, approaching the exit on my way out, I anticipated the attempted gouging that I was about to experience at the hands of the parking attendant (who didn't even have a working gate to keep me from blowing past him). He attempted to charge me five dollars, even though the sign indicated that I had only run up a $1 bill for my time in parking deck. I hardly ever challenge something like this, which makes me a crummy consumer on the whole, but I couldn't let these guys take four extra dollars from me. Not after being told by someone who works at a garage how they rip people off with regularity. Always check the sign.

So that's my fuck-you to the system for today. Just kidding. I like the system. Good system, good system....
