No Direction Home

I watched Part I of the Dylan thing on PBS tonight. I recommend it to anyone who has at least a passing interest in the history of American pop culture or music. I'm not really a fan of Bob Dylan, but I consider him a very important influence on modern rock and punk. Plus, I like a lot of the bluegrass and roots music that drove him to play the guitar and "sing".

There is a pretty amusing series of snippets from a show in the UK, presumeably in the year or so after he went electric. Some of those blokes were angered, thinking that he sold out. Hell, the counterculture that he grew up with sold out wholesale in the late 60s. Dylan just saw the handwriting on the wall before most.

If you can catch in reruns, watch it. Pissed, though, that Mr. Dylan has not been mapped on the Rock n Roll genome.
